Finishing off

Phewwww  Been busy for the last few days finishing off my professional practice work ready to hand in tomorrow. Nearly there n now disaster's struck! I ordered my photobook a week ago and paid over £14 postage to get the 'in your hand in 3 days' deal. I took into account the bank holiday and it should have been here only to find it's not actually being dispatched until tomorrow!!!! Furious n all they'll say is I would have been informed of this before I placed my order! ....... well obviously not or I wouldn't have ordered it!!!! I'll have to think of a way round it now.... if there is 1!  :(
My  photobook followed my journey from early drawings through to my final major project and I'm over the moon with it (when it actually arrives!)

FMP Drawings and a change of heart !

I was working on my final major project earlier and sorting out what drawings I've got so thought I'd share a few of them with you so you can see what I've been up to while I've been absent from my blog!
My final project is based on 'the secret garden'. I have made a 'brave ' decision following my tutorial a few weeks ago and have decided that instead of designing collections for the gift market I am designing prints for fashion fabric.......namely for teen lingerie! Big turnaround but I've already got quite a lot done in the form of designs for giftwrap... with just a bit of 'tweaking' they'll be just perfect!!

Good News

Well over the past weeks I've been really busy bringing together all my work for my professional practice ready to hand in next week. I've taken lots of pics of my work to put together a photo book of my creative journey throughout my degree. It's been printed and is on it's way as we speak! Can't wait to see it!
Whilst all that has been going on I've also continued contacting various companies to ask for sponsorship for my final major project and guess what? All at once it's coming together- I've managed to get not 1 but 2 sponsors in the space of a few weeks! AND there's another in the pipeline! just when I'd just about given up ..... just goes to show! :)
I'd like to thank Crafty individuals and That craft place for their support. They both sent me a fab collection of products to use in my work and I'm soooo grateful to them. It'll be really helpful when I come to put my final collections together.

Gelli Plate Addiction!

Good morning all. I had a really busy day yesterday...worked from home and managed to get loads done :)
Well I've finally joined the ranks of those addicted to their gelli plates! I've had my gelli plate for months but wasn't sure what to do with it and just hadn't found the time to experiment with it. I've now attended 2 workshops with Sam Crowe, learning loads of different techniques and I'm off!!!!
Yesterday I made sure I did all my other uni jobs before I got my plate out lol. I created loads of prints with acrylic to use in my final collection. I'll be using them in cad and play  around with them before I use them for backgrounds and borders.
Here are a few of my faves

I used bits of lace , sequin waste and leaves to create them....not perfect but by the time I've finished in cad they'll be fab! The last one is my fave ...love the colours which fit my collection colour palette!

All the way from Paris!

Good afternoon everyone and hope you're all enjoying a nice relaxing Sunday. I'm really busy today.... I've got a tutorial tomorrow for my professional studies so am spending the day trying to get all my work into some semblance of order ready! The living room floor is covered lol!
 
Today I'd like to share my embroidery samples with you all that went to Paris. The collection was designed for children's wear and was based on the song 'a windmill in old Amsterdam'
 My drawing sets included lots of mice, clogs, tulips and windmills and my colour scheme was reds and greys. I thought it would be fun to try and recreate fabrics like men's suiting to give it a different feel.

 

 

 

The samples were created on hand dyed fabrics using various methods and a variety of different embroidery techniques.

I was really pleased with the finished samples and really enjoyed working on them..... a huge change from my usual paper crafting work !!

My Glamorous 50s collection

Happy Monday all . Today I'm going to share with you a peek at one of my previous collections based on the glamorous 50s. I won't show you the whole lot as there's 8 different mini collections within the whole ...... it'll just give you an overview!
I've always loved looking at pictures of the 50's.....all feminine and glamour, fab clothes, stunning jewellery and gorgeous movie stars......style icons that have stood the test of time!

Busy Week !

Good morning all. First of all thankyou to all the lovely messages of support both on here and on my facebook for my exciting news. I appreciate it sooo much.
Well I've been off line for a week....a fault with my internet :(  We really don't realise how much we rely on it until we don't have it!!
Although I've been off line I've had a really busy week. I've been catching up on some of my professional studies work.....8 weeks till hand in  eeeek ! Better get myself into 'computer' mode :)
 I thought I'd share something I made outside of uni today. It was an order for a birth sampler with a difference..... a cute teddy bear holding a plaque. My client was over the moon with it.

Exciting News :)

Woohooo ! Just a quickie but I had to share. I've some really exciting news today...... Four pieces of my embroidery work has been selected to be exhibited in Paris next week at the Premier Vision trade show. For those of you that haven't heard of this it's a huge international trade show where companies from all over the go to purchase new designs for future collections, usually either for fashion or for interiors. Excited muchly !

A Peek at my Embroidery module

Afternoon all. Thanx for the  lovely comments :)  I really appreciate your input. Today I want to share some of my embroidery module which, again, I did quite some time ago. As usual I started with a theme , did some drawing sets and then interpreted them in embroidery. The emphasis was on the 'drawn quality' and not my usual neat embroidery stitches!

A Blog makeover !!!

As many of you will already know I am, at present, in my final year of my BA(HONS) degree in textiles and surface design at Cleveland college of Art and Design in Hartlepool, County Durham. I'm loving every minute and would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to join me on my creative journey. I would really appreciate your thoughts on my work and the way I get there!
I will be posting some of my work from earlier on in my degree and this will lead on to what I'm up to week by week.
 The first work I'm going to share is from way back when we did an interiors module. We were all given 2 words we drew out of a hat and my words were haberdashery and vintage which was a stroke of luck as vintage is my fave!

Steampunk Tags

As I have been unwell for a few weeks now n haven't managed to do any crafting at all ( if anyone comes across my mojo please send it back!!!! lol) I decided to update my blog with a set of tags I made a few weeks ago. I join in with a monthly tag swap over on facebook in a group called mad crafters giggles n the theme for August was steampunk. Right up my street!!!

I used my fave steampunk stamps from Kanban that seem to come out again n again! I used my trusty promarkers to add the colour.  The background is a cogs mask from Splodgeaway which was embossed onto coredinations and sanded back. I added a strip of washi tape to each tag n got to use my new die from xcut- the cogs. Love this die n they're so effective! I finished the tags off with garden twine.

Steampunk

Well it seems steampunk's making a bit of a re appearance at the mo as I seem to be coming across it everywhere I look, which is all good as I LOVE it!!!
This is my latest steampunk offering

I tried to put lots of texture and interest into the background to begin with and used a piece of pearly patterned paper from my stash. After fixing it to the card blank I used a cogs Splodgeaway mask and embossed it which shows up really well on the left hand side.I then coloured the white cardstock with crushed olive distress ink and addad a border with the pear green promarker to add definition. The 'tag' shape was diecut and then embossed with a Tim Holtz folder which was then sanded. The sentiment is from creative expressions and was stamped onto a piece of card coloured with distress ink as before. I added a liberal sprinkling cogs which were die cut from pearly paper with an xcut die- my new fave - love them!

My image is from Kenny K and she's called Scarlet West! I love Kenny K digis as they all have loads of attitude! I coloured her with my promarkers and added lots of foiling to highlight her buttons, buckles and jewels lol!

Beautiful in Blue !

I have real problems colouring blonde hair without it looking yellow!!! The challenge at graph'it this week is...... blonde hair so it gave me a kick up the rear to get my markers out n have another go.
This is the result

For the back I used pale blue pearlised card which I embossed with the psychedelic splodgeaway mask to add texture. The spotty paper is from dovecraft basics range which was matted onto textured silver mirricard.
 

My image is from Saturated canary and she's been coloured with promarkers then die cut- can't remember what make die! As usual I've finished her off with foiling on her earrings! I just love foiling and makes no mess unlike when I get my paws on glitter !!! lol

Glamour and Glitz

The challenge over at saturated canary this time is glamour n glitz and as my collection of these FAB digistamps is now quite considerable and most of them are very glam I was a bit spoilt for choice lol!
Before I post this I must apologise for the quality of my pics- don't know whats wrong with my camera!!!

 I started out with the fab saturated canary stamp which I coloured with my promarkers. It was cut out with a spellbinder die and matted onto textured silver card. The backing paper was from my stash- free from a mag! I cut round some of the elements with a craft knife and slotted my image underneath it. I used a printed tag sentiment and added a silver ribbon then the whole thing was finished with lots of glitter and some sparkly stones!

Through My Mask

My latest project for Splodgeaway is showcased on the blog today, using different mediums and masks.

I created the background by dry-brushing acrylic paint and covering it with a dye-based wash which gave a 'worn' look. On top of this I layered distress ink through a flower border mask and outlined it with white gel pen and finished it with snowtex coloured with reinker squished through the dot the lot mask. This overpowered the piece a little so when it was dry I sanded some of it back.
The main image was stamped onto a book page and coloured with coloured pencils to give a soft hint of colour and the rest of the images were stamped with sepia ink to give an overall impression of 'vintage worn'.

Pink n Lemon

Hi all. Well I've had a really busy week last week n didn't manage to do any blogging or even any crafting for the whole week!!   :(    I'm trying to catch up but it's far too hot to hurry lol.
I haven't entered any of the Kenny K challenges for ages and as I had an order for a sweet 16th card I decided to combine the 2!
The challenge theme is Lemonade sale - a photo inspiration which was basically shades of pink n lemon. Here's my take on it

The image is Mae Western from Kenny K. I love her as she seems to have so much attitude !!!
The background was created with various papers from my stash and the sentiments from lili of the valley.
